With DIY bedroom decorations, you can change the entire aesthetic of your room for less. Not only will you save money by not buying bedroom decor, you’ll also have unique accessories to show your personal style.
But how do you get started with making your own bedroom decor? Here are some fun DIY bedroom decor ideas to try in your space:
Washi tape is affordable and available at your local craft store. It comes in a plethora of colors and patterns to inspire you. One great way to use washi tape is to create frames around photographs and prints on your wall. This way, you can make a creative statement without damaging the wall paint.
Use this idea to hang your favorite photos all over the room, or create a special accent wall to share your memories.
Making the duvet cover of your dreams is simpler than you might think. With fabric paint and round sponges, you can create a trendy confetti style duvet cover for less. Or, for a starry night theme, use white or yellow star shaped sponges to create your own personal night sky.
Your local crafts or art supply store will have plenty of fun options for sponges and stamps to use for this DIY project.
Instead of paying a fortune for modern wall art, try making your own using painter’s tape. Simply use a large blank canvas or piece of particleboard and use the tape to make angles and shapes. Combine primary colors for a true midcentury modern vibe, or go with the specific color scheme of your bedroom decor.
You can make one large art piece to serve as a focal point, or create a gallery wall full of your own custom geometric masterpieces.
If you want a dreamy canopy bed without the cost or construction, make your own with curtains and a metal hoop. You can buy a bendable metal tube or wire and shape it yourself, or use a premade circular shape. Feed the hoop through the curtains as you would a curtain rod, and hang the hoop from the ceiling above the bed.
Now you have a beautiful and whimsical canopy for a fraction of the cost.
If you’re in need of bedroom ideas, DIY decor is a great place to find your inspiration. With these DIY room decor ideas, you can personalize your space while saving money on unique modern decor.

Throughout his childhood, John Mahan spent summers on Cape Cod at his parents’ home in Dennis Port. His intro to the Cape was, as he puts it, when his parents “carried me down the stairs at Sea Street Beach when I was a week old.” With a lifelong connection to Cape Cod, it seemed only natural for John and his wife, Mary, to move to Harwich – where they still reside – with their two young children in 1996.
Prior to moving to Cape Cod, John lived in the Worcester-Auburn area where he worked for Mass Electric for 10 years and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Utility Workers. When John and his family moved to the Cape, he worked at NSTAR for six years.
John began his career in real estate in 2002 when he joined Team Waystack Realty in Harwich Port. He has been a consistent top producing realtor in the Harwich area for the past 20 years. John’s approachable demeanor, combined with an integral understanding of the Cape Cod residential real estate market, have allowed him to build trusting, long-term relationships with his clients – both sellers and buyers.
